Lake Park Little League Program FAQ
Whether you're new to Little League or returning for another season, we want to make it easy to understand how our programs work throughout the year. Here’s a breakdown of the programs we offer and some frequently asked questions.
Spring/Summer Season
What divisions are offered?
We typically offer Machine Pitch (ages 5-8), Minors (ages 9-10), and Intermediate (ages 11-13). If interest allows, we may also offer Juniors (ages 13-14).
When does registration run?
Registration typically opens in early December and runs through Mid-March (Minors, Intermediate, Juniors) or Mid-April (Machine Pitch).
When does the season run?
Practices begin in April and games run through mid-July.
What is the schedule?
Teams usually practice approximately once per week. Games are scheduled on weeknights and weekends, depending on division and field availability.
Where do practices and games take place?
Practices and games take place at either Lake Park or the Pumping Station. Games will usually occur at those locations as well, though occasionally we will play inter-league games against other area teams at their fields, which may require travel.
How are teams formed?
We try to keep teams balanced in terms of age and skill level to ensure a fair and fun environment. We do offer players the option to request teammates to keep friends together when possible.
Fall Season
What divisions are offered?
We encourage players to "play up" to the division in which they will likely participate the following spring to gain experience and confidence. In the Fall Ball season, we offer Machine Pitch (recommended for ages 6-7), Minors (recommended for ages 8-9), and Intermediate (recommended for ages 10-13).
When does registration run?
Registration typically opens in mid-Summer and runs through early August.
When does the season run?
Practices begin in late August and games run through September and October.
What is the schedule?
Teams usually practice approximately once per week on a weeknight and games take place on Sundays. In the past, we have scheduled doubleheaders on Sundays to give the kids enough game play during the condensed season.
Where do practices and games take place?
Practices will take place at either Lake Park or the Pumping Station. Fields and opponents for games will vary based on local league partnership and are determined once we have a sense of registration numbers.
In the past, games have been played at our “home” fields (Lake, Pumping Station and Riverside Parks) as well as at Reservoir Park in West Allis, Madison Park in Wauwatosa, and Cooper Park on the west side of Milwaukee. Intermediate teams have also occasionally played games in West Bend for sake of additional competition.
How are teams formed?
We try to keep teams balanced in terms of age and skill level to ensure a fair and fun environment. We do offer players the option to request teammates to keep friends together when possible.
All Stars (Postseason Tournament Teams)
What is All Stars?
All Stars is a competitive postseason opportunity for selected players from the spring season. Teams represent the league in district, state and possibly regional/national tournaments.
Does Lake Park Little League always offer All Stars?
LPLL makes the decision about whether to have an All Star team each spring season based on player interest and coach availability.
Who is eligible?
Coaches nominate players based on skill, sportsmanship and team need. Eligible players must have played in at least 60% of spring season games. And parents must commit to daily practices and weekend games during June and July.
When are All Star teams selected?
Teams are selected during late May to early June, near the end of the regular season.
General Program FAQs
How do I know what division my child should be in?
Divisions are based on Little League age, which is determined by birth date (you can check out the Little League Age Calculator for more info). We also offer flexibility in division placement based on experience and readiness, with players able to play up or down a division if needed.
Can I request to play with friends or specific coaches?
Yes, we offer all registrants to request teammates. We try to honor all requests, though they are not guaranteed as we need to ensure teams are fair.
What if my child has never played baseball before?
That is totally fine! Our league welcomes players of all skill levels. Many of our coaches are trained to support first-time players and make the game fun and accessible for everyone.
What equipment is needed?
Players should come to practices with a glove. Cleats are recommended, but sneakers are alright for younger players. Some players have their own bat (USA Baseball certified) and helmet, though those are also offered by the league. The league also provides team jerseys and hats.
